Chapter 3: Joel Turney to the Rescue

I am part of NYCVINMOTO, an email list for riders of vintage (80s and older) bikes in NYC. I asked that list for a personal injury lawyer recommendation, and one of the members supplied the name of Joel Turney, of https://personalinjurynewyorkcity.com/

Joel listened to me with attention and compassion. Just talking to him made me feel better about the injuries I had sustained. We put together the lawsuit and filed in in September of 2023. You can find the lawsuit here.

I tried to make contact with Anna via email, but she ghosted me. Meanwhile, I had the footage of her artistic amazingness, I decided to cut it together into a video to send to her to show her she really needed to address this issue, that if this video hit the rounds in the graff community, she would look like a complete tool and by extension make all graff writers look foolish in the eyes of the public. (It took a long time for graffiti to make the leap from public nuisance to accepted art form. This footage doesn’t do the discipline much good in terms of PR.) I sent the video to Anna but kept it (and this website) behind a password for quite some time, while I set aside money to hire a private investigator, various process servers, and my own paralegal to assist Joel in the filings. Anna managed to dodge me at every turn.

I emailed her mother, a well connected NYC socialite, in August of 2023. Apparently, she read the email but never responded. Over a year later, unsure of whether her mother was aware of what had happened to me, I decided to text her directly, to communicate to her that her daughter was being sued, and that I was asking for her help in locating Anna to have her lawfully served. That I had a video showing Anna in a very disgraceful light, that I’d rather not have to foist upon them in order to involved the public to get an address for legal service. It makes her daughter look like an absolute clown. In other words, help me help you!

The mother wrote back “I have your emails. No need to text me. Thank you.”

Well, I guess it’s possible to be successful, well-connected, even a thought leader of sorts, and also be a classless, uncaring dolt. To encourage your troubled adult child to run from lawful consequence of their own actions is not great decision-making. Sorry lady but what the heck are you thinking??! I am not after anything other than my due process. You are not helping your kid by coddling her and shielding her from learning that actions have consequences. Has it ever dawned on you that because Anna has never faced a consequence in her life, she behaves as if she is immune to them? This is very risky. AFFLUENZA KILLS!
